The large, flat stones in Chateaunuef-du-Pape are called Lauze and was the pseudonym adopted by the original vigneron of the Domaine when he became a resistance fighter against the Nazis in WWII. When the war was over he was so fed up with everything that he retired and sold the Domaine for literally one franc. The only stipulation was that they had to keep the name. It was Anne Foucher, who is the current owner of the Domaine, whos grandfather made the favorable purchase.
