After sailing the Pacific Ocean in the pursuit of adventure, Whitehaven founders Greg and Sue White set a new course when they arrived in the Marlborough Sounds in 1994. It was here at the top of New Zealand’s South Island — amidst the sunny, tranquil bays and stunning natural landscape — that they dropped anchor and established Whitehaven Wines.

  • Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir
    translation missing: en.products.product.description

The name of the wine comes from the original settlers of the Wakitipu Basin as they tried to drive a flock of 3000 sheep from Oamaru on the east coast of the South Island. Crossing the Cairnmuir Range to avoid the Cromwell Gorge, they reached the Kawarau river, but found it impossible to get the sheep up the Kawarau Gorge as the gap between the bluff and the river was too narrow. The mountain that loomed above this bluff they named Mt Difficulty.
