From Sage Mountain in Napa Valley, this incredible project from Tim and Marcia Mondavi is a Bordeaux-style blend from a vineyard site sitting nearly 1600 feet above sea level. What this means is that the 42 separate plots of land where these grapes grow is above the fog line so that the soft early morning sun actually touches these grapes and gently wakes them up. In addition to this micro-climate, the soil isn't actually dirt but naturally decomposed lava rock, which makes the vines struggle, making better wine, so the site is actually a micro-geology as well.
