Wine On The Water Wednesday: Perfect Pairings for Football Season & Tailgating
Football season is here, and that means it’s time for tailgates, game-day spreads, and plenty of fun with friends. This Wednesday, October 1, join us for a special wine tasting featuring bold, versatile, and crowd-pleasing wines that pair beautifully with your favorite football foods—from fried chicken and hot dogs to juicy burgers and spicy buffalo wings.
These wines aren’t just for the table—they’re for the tailgate. Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll be pouring and how to enjoy them with your game-day lineup:
Avissi Prosecco (Italy)
Avissi is produced in the Veneto region of Italy, where Prosecco reigns supreme, and is known for its crisp, modern style designed for easy enjoyment. Fresh, lively, and sparkling with notes of green apple, pear, and citrus, Avissi Prosecco is the perfect kickoff wine. Its bubbles and bright acidity refresh the palate and balance salty, crunchy bites. Avissi pairs well with fried chicken, potato chips, and most any salty party snacks.
San Polo Rubio (Tuscany, Italy)
San Polo, a modern Brunello estate in Montalcino, is committed to organic farming and sustainable practices, producing wines that highlight Sangiovese’s purity and vibrancy. Made from 100% Sangiovese, San Polo’s Rubio is elegant yet approachable, with notes of cherry, plum, and a touch of spice. Its bright acidity and medium body make it a natural fit for char-grilled burgers and meaty dishes. San Polo Rubio pairs well with burgers, meatball subs, and pizza.
Quinta Sardonia “Sardon” (Castilla y León, Spain)
Quinta Sardonia, located near Ribera del Duero, was founded with the guidance of renowned winemaker Peter Sisseck (of Pingus fame) and is known for blending native and international grapes with finesse. A juicy red blend of Tempranillo and international varieties, this Spanish wine bursts with ripe red fruit, spice, and a smooth finish. It’s versatile and crowd-pleasing, making it a great choice for casual game-day foods, like hot dogs, grilled sausages, and BBQ sliders.
Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon (California)
Created by Chuck Wagner of Caymus fame, Bonanza focuses on offering a quality California Cabernet that’s fruit-forward, polished, and more affordable than its Napa cousins. A softer, more approachable Cabernet, Bonanza delivers layers of dark fruit, cocoa, and a smooth, easy finish. Its richness makes it the perfect foil for spicy, bold foods including buffalo wings, BBQ ribs, and chili.
Come join us as we kick off October with wines that are as exciting as the game itself. Whether you’re cheering for your team at the stadium, tailgating with friends, or hosting at home, these bottles will score big with every bite.
