Taste of Alsace ~ Wednesday, August 2!

Join us for an Alsace Wine Tasting event, where we will take you on a journey through the captivating vineyards of northeastern France.

Alsace is a renowned wine region located in northeastern France, known for producing exceptional wines with distinct characteristics. The region benefits from a unique microclimate, sheltered by the Vosges Mountains, which creates a favorable environment for grape cultivation.

Carrie White, with Grapevine Distributors, will be joining us and will be sharing some shop favorites and interesting new wines from  Dopff & Irion Winery and Joseph Cattin Winery.

Dopff & Irion Winery

The Irion and the Dopff families were already wine connoisseurs in the 16th century and have been closely involved in the fortunes of the village of Riquewihr throughout the ages. The firm of Dopff & Irion was established when Rene Dopff joined fortunes with the widowed Madame Irion. Rene Dopff was the first to have faith in the concept of “terroir,” the restructuring of the vineyard by dividing it into five “domains” or estates, and then planting each one with the most suitable grape variety.

Dopff & Irion Cremant D'Alsace Blanc de Blanc

Crémant D’Alsace Brut is a sparkling wine made from Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois varieties using the traditional method.  It is pale yellow with fine and light bubbles. The nose is characterized by aromas of green apple or lemon and the flavor is round and elegant.  Well balanced and perfectly dry, with lasting, fine bubbles.

Dopff & Irion Crustaces

Crustaces is a white blend made from Pinot Blanc and Silvaner.  It is a pale-yellow color, with fresh, very pleasant, opened tea and mineral aromas. Well balanced, with an excellent freshness. A nice dry wine with an enjoyable fruit. Crisp, easy-drinking wine.

Joseph Cattin Winery

The Cattin family are of Swiss descent and trace their arrival in Alsace to around the year 1720. The family settled in the village of Voegtlinshoffen 10km south of the Alsatian wine capital of Colmar. Being that the region had been famous for its wines since the Middle Ages they immediately planted vines and began the viticultural legacy that continues today. The Domain is named for Joseph Cattin who became renowned for his pioneering work in grafting that, at the end of the 19th century, is widely credited for saving some of Alsace’s best vineyards from phylloxera. This is the 12th generation of Cattin family producing wine from their winery in the small village on the foothills of the Vosges Mountains.

Joseph Cattin Orange Cattin

Orange Cattin comes from very healthy and fully ripe grapes that are hand-harvested in September.  It is 100% Pinot Gris.  This is their first orange wine made by macerating white grapes in contact with their skins, and the results make for a fantastic food friendly wine.

Bright orange in appearance with a nose of candied orange peel, lemon peel and
spices. A full mouth palate, expressing great complexity. This Pinot Gris is full-bodied and complex, expressing candied orange peel flavors combined with fresh spiciness.

Joseph Cattin Pinot Noir

Joseph Cattin Pinot Noir is a fresh and fruity wine with delicious flavors of red fruits; cherry, raspberry, currant and blackberry.  The color is a light red and fruity red fruits and soft tannins on the palate.

We hope you will join us for a delightful wine tasting journey through Alsace, France!
