Special Wine on the Water ft. Copper Cane Wines from Joe Wagner and Book Signing with Leigh Jones Handal!

Whether it was on a boat, by the pool, or at the Riverdogs game, we hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July this past week!

Wine on the Water

As we continue our summer adventures, we wanted to let you know Wine on the Water is back this week, Wednesday, July 10! We are going to be featuring several wonderful wines from Joe Wagner, known for his bold philosophy of "Go with Your Palate". Joe is a 5th generation wine grower, having grown up in Napa Valley following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Breaking some of the traditional Burgundian methods, Joe strives to find the best of the best in all regions of California, paving the way for his own legacy.

Wines We're Tasting

Belle Glos Oeil de Perdrix Rosé of Pinot Noir

French for "Eye of the Partridge", this Rosé captures the essence of the Pinot Noir grape that Belle Glos has become known for. A crisp acidity and bold berry flavors, the Pinot grapes are lightly pressed in whole clusters, then have a brief interaction with French oak barrels during and after fermentation. Also, part of the proceeds from every bottle of Rosé goes towards ongoing research in the cure for cancer.

Threadcount by Quilt Sauvignon Blanc

Quilt is Joe Wagner’s tribute to the character of Napa Valley and its rolling patchwork of vineyards. His latest venture, Threadcount, Joe chooses grapes from the most select regions in the Coastal Californian valley region, weaving together a masterful blend of minerality and acid to compliment the vibrant fruit and floral notes. The well-balanced mouthfeel makes this Sauvignon Blanc pair well with Lowcountry staples such as crab cakes or fresh Shem Creek shrimp.

Böen Tri-County Pinot Noir

Böen, German for "farmer", is Wagner's brand dedicated to farmers. As he says, "At the end of the day, harvesting grapes from the land they came from, I am first and foremost a farmer." By growing Pinot Noir grapes in the some of the best coastal regions of California, the Tri-County Pinot Noir has produced a well-rounded Pinot that has aromas of dark fruit, clove, and white pepper. This Pinot will stand up to a hearty protein and compliment any in-season fruit cobbler.

Threadcount by Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon

Joe Wagner grew up on his grandparent's winery many of us know well: Caymus. With this project, the Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and satisfying with flavors of boysenberry jam, black cherry pie filling, dark currant, and cocoa. Full yet elegant on the palate, with strong acidity and a long, smooth finish accompanied by velvety tannins. Wagner's strengths growing up with Cabernet allows this wine to be the main event on your palette. The Cabernet will pair well with game dishes, pan-seard chicken, or chilled pasta salad.

Book Signing with Leigh Jones Handal!

Leigh Jones Handal will be with us with more copies of her latest book, 'Charleston Then and Now.'

Leigh, a dear friend of The Wine Shop of Charleston, is Chick-in-Charge at Charleston Raconteurs; "Do You Know Your Lowcountry" columnist at Charleston Post & Courier; author of "Lost Charleston", "Storied & Scandalous Charleston" and "Charleston Then and Now".

City guide Leigh Jones Handal tells the story of the Charleston she loves through archive photos matched with their modern viewpoint.

There are vintage photos of the great plantation houses, plus the grand buildings on Meeting Street, and the soaring spires of Charleston’s many churches. Handal has uncovered a treasury of vintage images which have been matched with modern photos to show new aspects of this enduringly fascinating city.
