Join us this Wednesday, July 26th, for a a captivating journey through the vineyards of Chile with our exclusive Chill in Chile Wine Tasting, with Parris Benight of Advintage Distributing. We will be enjoying a special collection of Chilean wines that are perfect to help beat this Charleston heat. And, we are so excited ~ Parris will be sharing details of her amazing experience at Laberinto Winery.
We will start off the evening with Prisma Rosé and Prisma Sauvignon Blanc, a Debbie Marlowe favorite!
The Prisma wines are made by Ricardo Baettig with estate fruit from the Lo Ovalle subregion of the Casablanca Valley. This coastal microclimate benefits from fog, large diurnal shifts in temperature, and its clay and granitic soil. Both the vineyard and the winery are certified sustainable. The Sauvignon Blanc comes from two different vineyards and is fermented and aged in stainless steel. The Pinot Noir is from 3 different clones that come from multiple blocks with different orientations from a single hillside vineyard.
We will then enjoy Laberinto Sauvignon Blanc and will learn more about Parris' special experience at Laberinto Winery.
Read more about Parris' recent journey:
"Laberinto winery is located in a very special place in Maule Valley, Chile. Situated on Lake Colbun in the foothills of the Andes. The vines are dry farmed organically. From Pais to Syrah to Riesling they make several white and red wines on the estate. However, they are best known for their Sauvignon Blanc.
I had the pleasure of working the 2023 harvest at Laberinto this past winter (which is summer in the Southern Hemisphere). Besides wandering the labyrinth - the wineries namesake and where the Sauv Blanc is planted - I helped turn grapes into wine! I learned a lot about the process of making wine and just how much love and effort it takes every person involved. While I wait patiently for the ‘23 vintage to be released so I can taste my labor of love, we will taste the ‘22 Sauv Blanc in the meantime.
This Sauv Blanc is hand harvested from a single vineyard of vines that Rafael Tirado (winemaker) planted himself in 1993. This SB has a bright nose with guava, passionfruit and lemon leading to a mineral mid palate and soft undertones of crushed rock. The volcanic ash from the vineyard adds to this minerality. 100% stainless steel leads to a very juicy and refreshing wine."
For our final wine, we will be enjoying an interesting, chillable red wine, Viña Maitia Aupa Pipeño, also sourced from the southern Maule region. This wine is a combination of 80% Pais and 20% Carignan and is produced in the traditional Pipeño style. Its appearance is light in color, accompanied by vibrant aromas of crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, and rose petals, which are complemented by subtle undertones of dried herbs, mint leaves, fennel, and thyme. This fruit-forward, approachable wine, with a hint of earth, offers refreshing acidity and mild tannins, making it a delightful choice to be enjoyed slightly chilled.
We look forward to celebrating these fantastic Chilean wines and hearing all about Parris' adventure in this picturesque region of Chile! Hope you can join us!
