A
Tasting of Wines from Greece
Wednesday, June 14, 5pm-7pm

Please join us this Wednesday, June 14, when we will be hosting a tasting of Greek wines. Becky, with Curated Selections, will be here pouring some interesting and fabulous Greek Wines.

This week we'll be be tasting Mylonas Pet Nat from Attika, Skouras Zoe Rosé from Peloponnesos, and two wines from Alpha Estates Winery, located at the northwest part of Greece, Amyndeon, Florina region.
Mylonas Pet Nat  -

Mylonas Winery is a third generation (since 1917) boutique winery located 30mi south of Athens. The petite but contemporary winery is built in the village of Keratea with the 17 ha of their vineyards being scattered in Attica's peninsula.

Savatiano is the main grape variety of this region with more than 3000 years history. Pet Nat (an abbreviation for Petillant Naturel) is a sparkling wine from Savatiano that travels us back in time to French Methode Ancestral or Rurale. It is delicate and light sparkling, which is a highlight! Quite aromatic with a bouquet of pears, peaches, mango, pineapple, lemons, and bananas, where the aromas themselves are pleasantly detected on the palate, with a delightful and refreshing acidity and fruity aftertaste.

 Skouras Zoe Rosé

Domaine Skouras is located in the Northeastern Peloponnese, in Argolida, close to the provinces of Corinthia and Arcadia, just a few kilometres from Argos, in the village of Malandreni. The winery is situated within the Nemea zone, the largest and possibly the most exciting Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for red wines in Greece.

This rosé is 70% Agiorgitiko , 30% Moscofilero.  The color is bright, light cerise with pink hues. Vibrant and clear on the nose, with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, hints of flowers, and rose petal notes. On the palate it has a medium body, moderately high acidity and the slightest suggestion of very ripe tannins. Flavors are consistent with the aromas, with a light sensation of sweet grass and bubble gum. The finish is moderately long, with developing flavors that lead to complexity.

ALPHA Estates Malagouzia Single Vineyard "TURTLES"

"Turtles" is the name of the single vineyard block, chosen by ALPHA Estates to reveal the typical expression and unconditional character of Malagouzia.  The vineyard ecosystem is an ancient nesting area for the local turtle species that they continue to preserve and protect.

Brilliantly, light yellow in color with greenish tints. Strong and lively nose, typical Malagouzia, suggesting rose petal with floral aromas and sweet spices, melon, litchi with a note of honeysuckle. Round and mellow on the palate, fat but balanced, high in alcohol with plenty of finesse. Well structured, reminding the nose aromas with a hint of rosemary. A richly textured wine with superb length and balance. A classy wine with long finish and persistent aromas.

ALPHA Estates Xinomavro Single Vineyard "HEDGEHOG"

"Hedgehog" is the name of the single vineyard block, chosen by ALPHA Estates to reveal the typical expression and unconditional character of Xinomavro, the noblest red varietal of Northern Greece.  This vineyard ecosystem is an ancient nesting area for the local hedgehog species that they also continue to preserve and protect.

Xinomavro- comes from the words xino (sour) and mavro (black). This wine is bright purple-red color. Complex, typical bouquet of small berries red fruits, leather and spices (vanilla, pepper, clove), with hints of ripe blackberry. Full mouth, rounded tannins, balanced acidity and well integrated wood tones. Long aftertaste with intense quince aroma.
