Double Platinum: A Wine Tasting Set to the Lyrics of 'Gypsy' by Fleetwood Mac

It's August and there's alot to celebrate!

August 1st was International Albarino Day. National Prosecco Day is August 13th. And being the music lovers we are over here at The Wine Shop, the hit single Gypsy, written by Stevie Nicks and performed by Fleetwood Mac, was released off of their double platinum album Mirage in August of 1982.

With these things as inspiration, we've decided to set a tasting to the lyrics of the song Gyspy. Yes, you read that right. Not a wine and food paring. Not even wine and cigar pairing. But a wine and song pairing!

We'll start, both this post and the tasting on Wednesday with some Italian sparkling wine: Zingara Prosecco. This is the easy one. Zingara translates literally to Gypsy from Italian.

Without further ado, however, here are the lyrics to Gypsy, the wines to accompany them and the method to our madness.

So I'm back to the velvet underground
Back to the floor that I love
To a room with some lace and paper flowers

Vina Cartin Albarino from Rias Baixas: "Lace and paper flowers". This is a soft and elegant white wine, dry and crisp, from the western coast of Spain with delicate floral notes.
Back to the gypsy that I was
To the gypsy that I was
And it all comes down to you
Well, you know that it does and
Lightning strikes maybe once, maybe twice
Oh and it lights up the night
And you see your gypsy
You see your gypsy
To the gypsy
That remains
Her face says freedom
With a little fear
I have no fear
"I have no fear" Against his father's wishes, third generation owner and winemaker, Nikos Douloufakis, was fascinated by the nearly extinct Vidiano grape varietal, indigenous to the Greek island of Crete, and pioneered to bring it back. (Spoiler alert: He succeeded). Another spoiler, the wine is amazing.

Have only love
"Have only love." Only Love. This is the motto of the J Brix winery, husband and wife team Jody Brix and Emily Towe, and the words are printed on the back of all of their bottles. For the tasting we'll be enjoying their Wild Wild Sea Chenin Blanc from Jurassic Park Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley.

And if I was a child
And the child was enough
Enough for me to love
Enough to love
She is dancing away from you now
She was just a wish
She was just a wish
And her memory is all that is left for you now
You see your gypsy, oh
You see your gypsy
Ooh ooh, ohh, ohh-oh
Lightning strikes
Maybe once, maybe twice
And it all comes down to you
Ooh oh, and it all comes down to you
Lightning strikes
Maybe once, maybe twice
And (oh) it all comes down to you
I still see your (your) bright eyes, bright eyes
(And it all comes down to you)
It all comes down to you. And it comes down to you coming out on Wednesday evening and hanging out with us as we enjoy some really fun and eclectic wines, good music, good people and do a left-of-center pairing and hope that lightning strikes not only once but maybe twice. And it lights up our night. See you there.
Salud,
The Wine Shop Team
